Colossians 3:17 - My Paraphrase.
Whatsoever you do, whether in word, or deed, do it all in the name of the
Lord Jesus Christ.

LEV 20:22+ - My Paraphrase.
Keep all MY decrees and laws and follow them, so that the land where I am
bringing you to live may not vomit you out. You must not live according
to the CUSTOMS of the nations I am going to drive out before you.
Because they did all these things I abhored them.......
... you are to be holy to me because I, the Lord, am holy, and I have set
you apart from the nations to be my own.

DEUT 12:30+ - My Paraphrase.
Be careful not to be ensnared by inquiring about their gods, saying, 'How
do these nations serve their gods? we will do the same.' YOU MUST NOT
their gods they do all kinds of detestable things the Lord hates..... See that you
do all that I command you, DO NOT ADD TO IT OR TAKE AWAY FROM IT.

One of the most difficult topics of christain conversation is Christmas.
Despite the overwhelming evidence, most christians are participating in pagan
rituals in the name of Christianity. As Christians, we are not our own, we
were purchased of God, at the most awesome price. Yet, we continue to
participate in practices that God considers to be abominations.

We are supposed to be the light of the world, and the salt of the earth,
yet, rather than use the Christmas season as an awesome celebration of the
valid reality of God's redemption, we are confusing the world, and our
children. If we give gifts, its not in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, no
we give them in the name of Santa Claus. And we lay them underneath a tree
decorated in paganistic fashion.

Our "Christian" christmas rituals are in fact PAGAN customs that predate
the birth of Messiah Jesus. The pagans celebrated a holiday called Saturnalia,
this celebration involved exchanging of gifts, decoration of trees, with lit
candles etc. These celebrations worshiped the "sun god" and its return as the
days began to lengthen. A few moments browsing through an enclclopedia will
yield these facts.

Many christians will defend their indoctrination of their children in the
myth of Santa Claus by claiming that Santa Claus originates with St Nicholas.
So what? Lets agree that there was a man called Nicholas, who was a bishop
centuries ago who was reknowned for his giving of gifts. Do you suppose such
a man would be pleased to know that his charity in devotion to Jesus had
resulted in the true focus of Christmas, CHRIST becoming obscured by people
giving gifts, not in the name of Jesus, but rather in the name of a person
long dead? I know *I* wouldn't be pleased if ANYTHING I did caused people to
exault me instead of my Lord Jesus Christ. Would you?

Lets contrast the truth about Jesus with common myths about Santa Claus.

gratitude for his mercy.

But, wait, you say, Santa Claus isn't really real, its just make believe.
Great, lets confuse our kids by causing them to believe in someone who isn't
real, so that when they find that out, they won't know if the One who IS real
is fake as well.

Whats more, since we both KNOW that Santa isn't real, why have anything
to do with "him". Isn't it better, from a point of view of common sense, to
teach your children what IS real. Its far more powerful, and more spiritual.

Ask yourself one question, when your child is in trouble, and you are not
there, which would you have rather taught them about, Jesus or Santa. Wouldn't
you rather that they know more about Jesus, and nothing of Santa, when they
really needed someone who was omnipotent. As they grow up, your children will
face an ever increasing onslaught of confusion from the world. Isn't it better
to start them off by laying the best foundation as early as possible. So that
when they reach those years where they spend more time under the world's
influence than under your influence, they are already equiped to stand their

Many christians refuse to give up Santa, or Christmas Trees, because they
represent a life long family tradition. Mark chapter Seven teaches us that the
traditions of men can make the Word of God of none effect. And so it is for
such people, their traditions prevent them from giving full place to the Word
of God.

Many christians refuse to give up Santa because they don't want to deprive
their children of "a good thing", but what thing could be better than the
reality that God became as a man, bore our sins, and was raised back to life
for our justification. What greater gift can you give your children this
christmas, than the gift of a true, complete, and unobscured understanding of
the promise of, birth, life, ministry, death, and resurrection of the Messiah,
